Reunion Island vanilla, also known as Bourbon vanilla, is a planifolia vanilla that is refined in a traditional way. Reunion Island is part of the Geographical Indication of Origin IGP île de La Réunion. Bourbon vanilla is known worldwide for its excellent quality and distinctive taste.
Thin, brown or black, Reunion Bourbon vanilla is extremely aromatic, oily and smooth. It exudes aromas of fruit, caramel and honey and is ideal for desserts and creams as well as for fish or meat dishes, especially duck and lamb.
The pods are around 18 cm long and weigh an average of 4.5 g. Humidity is around 35% while vanillin content is +/- 2.2%.
