8. Vanilla Syrup
Vanilla syrup is an aromatic addition that enhances any coffee, cocktail or sundae. You can make this syrup at home with just a few ingredients.
- 200 grams of sugar
- 200ml of water
- Pulp and pods of 5 vanilla beans
Prepare your vanilla beans by slitting them lengthwise and carefully scraping out the pulp with the back of a knife. Keep both the pith and the pods.
Place the sugar and water in a medium-sized saucepan and set over medium-high heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
Now add the scraped vanilla pulp and the empty vanilla pods. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil.
Reduce the heat and let the syrup simmer for 10-15 minutes. The syrup will thicken a bit and the vanilla will fully develop its aroma.
Remove the pot from the stove and let the syrup cool completely. The vanilla beans should remain in the syrup during this time to continue releasing their flavor.
Once the syrup has cooled, remove the vanilla beans. The syrup is now ready to use! You can store it in a sealable jar in the fridge.
